During the internship, you are assigned to extremely experienced people. You learn from the pros and get experience in a variety of areas. I have a well-rounded base of skills because of the program."
–Jennifer Bradley, R.N.

This six-month internship is designed for new R.N. graduates or R.N.s re-entering the nursing field. Interns are full-time Associates with benefits. Flexible scheduling is available. By the end of the internship you will have acquired strong, well-rounded nursing skills.

An 18-month minimum employment is expected. An intern can transfer to a full-time position at any time during the six-month internship. Interns are encouraged to participate in educational classes offered hospital wide.

Highlights

The six-month program is divided into four rotations.

  • Three six-week rotations to telemetry and medical/surgical areas are followed by one six-week rotation to specialty areas.
  • The first rotation (excluding rehab at this time) consists of orientation for six weeks on one unit, working with a preceptor one on one during the preceptor’s schedule. Interns will be caring for up to four patients with the preceptor by the end of the rotation.
  • The second and third rotations in other units consist of orientation for six weeks on each unit, working with a preceptor one-on-one. Interns will be caring for five to six patients by the end of these rotations.
  • The last six week rotation may include ICU, ER, psychiatric or other areas if applicable. These are two- or three-week assignments on each unit.
  • As positions become available throughout CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital, interns may apply for these positions as interested. Also, the staffing manager may request that you fill open positions to meet department needs.
